Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Director of Business Systems Sustainment to join our dynamic IT team. The position will be responsible for the operation, enhance, and effective use of our Deltek ERP system, related relational database management systems (RDBMS), and various system interfaces and integrations. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading system maintenance efforts which includes, but is not limited to, troubleshooting issues, and applying fixes, upgrading versions, managing integrations, and ensuring system performance expectations are met. The role will require communicating with all departments and providing essential support and leadership to our staff. The candidate must be able to work comfortably with all user levels and be willing to cross-train/share knowledge to enhance the overall quality of the services delivered.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

  • Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Provide direction and leadership to the development and operations lifecycle of business systems, custom applications, and geospatial systems.

Do the Work

  • Define the software development lifecycle (SDLC), automation, and productivity tools to ensure development efforts are agile and productive, and that developed systems are reliable and scalable.

  • Define the various development, test, quality assurance, and production environment requirements, the processes, and procedures for a continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline, and the strategy to transform the environment over time.

  • Provide leadership for teams that develop, deploy, monitor, and operate key business systems, custom applications, and geospatial systems.

  • Partner with other IT leaders and operational business leaders to define an IT operating model that promotes and takes advantage of digital innovation across the enterprise.

  • Partner with the CIO and Executives to define strategies for revenue expansion through digital innovation and services offerings.

  • Define strategy and roadmaps and oversee the development of long-term plans and proposals of business systems, custom applications, and geospatial systems.

  • Provide managerial, administrative, and operational support to Bowman's ERP and related applications and reporting platforms. Work closely with the CFO & Controller to define the long-term evolution and roadmap of the ERP system.

  • Ensure continuous alignment of project investments and initiatives with business strategy based on changing functional needs, resource capacity constraints, risk exposure, and interdependencies.

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure continuous innovation & support; manage relationships with managed service providers and ensure adherence to SLAs and overall quality.

  • Own the regular reviews of systems performance metrics with the IT leadership team and business stakeholders.

  • Communicate status of projects on regular basis to leadership and stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems or commensurate coursework in related field.

  • Ten or more (10+) years of IT experience, with four (4) years of supervisory experience preferred.

  • Technical expertise in agile software development.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

  • Mobility around an office environment.

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
